'Lesbians make better parents', government adviser says Posted: 16 Nov 2009 03:20 AM PST A government adviser has said that lesbians make better parents than straight couples. Professor Stephen Scott told a meeting last week that research showed children raised by lesbians tended to have higher aspirations.

Finally, what many of us know to be true is slowly but surely making it's way to the mainstream. When I refer to many of us, I am referring to the human beings with eyes, ears and skills of observation that they themselves use to form their own opinions and judgments. Fancy that, they actually prefer to risk ridicule or being identified as the Neighbor on the block with Cooties rather than stand behind conclusive judgments rallied out in desperate fear.

It might shock you to know that many of these daring souls are even heterosexual and I would bet, not only is their probably one or two living on your block, in your apartment building or down the alley from you...but many of you probably work with a few and even more surprising, they too face homelessness and continued attempts to be silenced and oppressed. Simply for speaking out and sharing what they know to be true.

Does this remind you of anything!? We'll leave this as our brain tweezers for the eve. Certainly won't take an Einstein to offer a few examples. For most of my lifetime the mainstream media has consistently allowed and perpetuated many of the absurd myth's that are associated with sexism and homophobia related to the risks that society at large & children of gay and/or lesbian parents face to perpetuate fears and dominate their outlets with very little challenge.

At times they have chosen to just stand aside as faulty and biased research, studies and professional opinions have dominated the airwaves rather than take the lead and provide the public with an opportunity to hear a more thorough, balanced and logic based perspective which often times is as available to them as simply answering & opening their door to just one of the many who have been knocking for years to have the opportunity to make such accurate information available. More often than not this has led to the public forming judgments & opinions with strong biases and inaccurate information.

Research according to the above article is now demonstrating that lesbian's seem to be quite successful at inspiring their children to reach beyond what were once traditionally sexist professions. In other words I would surmise this implies male children of Lesbian Mom's are growing up to successfully become Nurse's, Flight Attendant's & service professionals while female children of Lesbian Mom's are growing up to successfully become Fire Fighter's, Electrician's & Engineer's and they are accomplishing this more often than the male and female children of heterosexual parents.

Now personally, I would think this would be a no brainer but apparently we needed a study and a Gay News service to bring it to the masses. Ironically I say no brainer because of the simple truth that ALL parents desire better lives for their children. I really mean ALL in a universal way. Women in general for generations have faced oppression without even getting so far as to actually identify a sexual preference. When you add on the weight and intense burden faced by Lesbian Mom's and give it a good honest hard look eye to eye...beyond your familiar zone, It's a burden I seriously doubt many men could carry for long outside of a county jail or psych hospital.

The children of these extraordinary Mom's make it a point to support and encourage their children in ways that do not hinder, oppress or restrict and I would think this would be especially so when it came to professions that they themselves perhaps could not get into. Such encouragements are part of the natural process associated with change, progress and the fundamental breaking down of barriers. I am proud of the women that came before me and because of them, I am more able to offer the young women after me the kinds of opportunities that now, many probably could not even imagine NOT having.
